| Mark began his career as an operational petroleum engineer with BP in the North Sea, after graduating with a first-class degree from Imperial College London.
In 1992, he launched North Sea Gas Limited, the UK’s first independent natural gas supplier to businesses.
In 1996, as Managing Director of Total Gas Marketing, he and his team broke the British Gas monopoly to introduce competition into the domestic gas market – a world first.
In 2000, Mark co-founded Warwick Energy. He has since spent 25 years at the forefront of offshore wind development, including Thanet, the world’s largest offshore wind farm when it opened in 2010.
His career brings a practical understanding of how to build a business, attract investment and deliver major infrastructure.
A Liberal Democrat member since 2000, Mark’s appointment is a proud moment for LDBEN. He joins colleagues with substantial private-sector experience in the House of Lords, including Chris Fox, who held senior roles at Tate & Lyle, Smiths Group and GKN; Susan Kramer, a former Vice-President of Citibank; and Tim Clement-Jones, former London Managing Partner of DLA Piper.
For our members, that experience matters. Mark will bring an understanding of the decisions businesses face and the conditions entrepreneurs need to grow directly into debates on Britain’s economic future.
Please join us in congratulating Mark and wishing him every success in the Lords.
Best wishes, |
