Council Groups and Tithes Success in local elections means more Lib Dem councillors.
Councillor tithes are a donation to the local party and must be reported as such.
Here’s all you need to know about council group accounts and contributions.
Election Expenses Thank you to everyone who has been working hard on completing their election expenses.
The deadline for submission (for local government candidates in England, and constituency candidates in Scotland if your result was declared on Friday 8th May) is Friday 12th June.
As well as the three recent Zoom clinics, we ran a dedicated training module on how to complete the expenses return. We’ve also worked with ALDC this year to deliver webinars on submitting election expenses returns.
Your feedback on the support we have offered is most welcome as we start planning the training programme for next year’s large set of local council elections. Do email compliance@libdems.org.uk with your thoughts and any questions.
Corporation Tax Following a meeting with HMRC, they are seeking policy advice on the tax implications for political associations concerning mutual trading and fundraising income. While awaiting this guidance, the HMRC team has granted a delay in responding to requests to register or resubmit to some local parties already. So please look out for correspondence from them.
We are currently working with HQ colleagues to send out further information to Treasurers on this issue and are continuing to talk to other parties, with HMRC and MPs about this ongoing issue.
Please refer to our latest guidance, which we are reviewing and updating on an ongoing basis.
