Local Party Changes With local government boundary changes taking place in many areas, we anticipate more questions from local parties about changing their boundaries.
Moving or merging a local party is a major undertaking behind the scenes. It requires synchronised programming across four complex systems: Salesforce (donations & compliance); Lighthouse; Connect (canvassing committees); and Fleet (website petitions).
If these are not aligned correctly, local parties cannot legally accept funds, email their members, or run data-driven ground campaigns.
The Compliance and Tech Teams at HQ are working with State and Regional Parties to help ensure this process runs smoothly, so that all local parties have systems that work for them on 1st January, 2027.
Whilst decisions are made at the AGMs in October and November, conversations need to start now, with any changes agreed by your Region in England, or State Party in Scotland and Wales. | | | | If you’re likely to be making changes locally, please contact your Regional or State Party as soon as possible. We must know by 1st August what areas are likely to be changing.
We also require final decisions to be made and notified by 30th November. This is so the work on aligning systems and notifying the Electoral Commission of party officers can take place in December, ready for changes to come into effect on 1st January.
Please do get in touch with support@libdems.org.uk if you have any questions.
Data Protection Complaints New rules for data protection complaint handling came into force on 19th June 2026. This follows the changes made in the Data Use and Access Act (DUAA) 2025.
What changes have we made?
The Data Protection Team at Lib Dem HQ already has a process in place for data protection complaints.
We have reviewed this against the new ICO guidance and updated the Party’s policy and procedures where necessary. This includes more signposting on relevant Party webpages to make it easier for individuals to know where to direct any complaints if they’re unhappy with the way their personal data has been handled.
What does this mean for party organisations?
You do not need to do anything different to what you already do with data protection complaints. Please continue forwarding them to data.protection@libdems.org.uk as soon as possible.
We have 30 days to acknowledge a data protection complaint and then investigate and respond without undue delay.
Please follow the link below for further information on our data protection policies and processes.
